Artist Profiles Sri A.K.C. Natarajan (Clarionet) was born in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu and started learning Music at the age of 10 from Alathur Sri Venkateswara Iyer. Later he learnt Nadaswaram from Ellupur Natesa Pillai and Clarinet from his father Late Sri A. K. Chinnakrishna Naidu. At the age of 15, he gave his first performance and joined the All India Radio as a staff artist in Calicut & Delhi. Following considerable success, he started giving live performances in India & abroad and received numerous awards. He also holds the distinction of having the post of Thiruvadhuthurai Adeena Vidvan & Dharmapuran Adeena Vidwan. He was also made the Asthana Vidvan of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. One of the most prestigious awards which he has received is the 'Clarinet Chakravarthi' given by the Maharaja of Mysore, Sri Jayachamaraja Wodeyar at the Dasara Function, and 'The Sangeet Natak Academy Award' in 1995. He was also made an 'Arasavai Kalaignar' by the government of Tamil Nadu.Sri. K. Munikumar (Nadaswaram) was trained by his father Sri. K. Nanda Gopal from 1986 and by Sri. AKC Natarajan since 1997. In 1995 he was selected as a a graded artiste by All India Radio, Cuddapah. He has performed in many venues. Among these are, Chennai Dooradarsan, Narsimha Swamy temple in Bombay and temples in Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamilnadu. All India Radio, Vaideeswaran Temple(Kumbabishekam) , Chennai Musical Academy and the Delhi Tamil Esai Sangam are among his notable performances. Mannargudi Sri. R. Vasudevan (Thavil) was trained at Shri Irudhaya Kamalanatha Swami Temples Music School, Valivalam. He is the disciple of Thavil Vidwan Shri Kunju Singaravel pillai from his boyhood days. He started performing at a very young age, and has accompanied famous Nadaswara Vidwans of such as Kulikkarai KS. Pitchayappa Pillai, Kottur KS. Rajarathinam Pillai, Sri. Sheik Chinna Moulana Sahib, Padmashri Mudurai M.P.N Sethuraman & Ponnusami and Namagiri Pettai K. Krishnan. He is an A grade artist in All India Radio, and also the Doordharshan in India. The Government of Tamil Nadu has awarded him the title Kalaimamani and appointed him Arasavai Kalaignar. Sri. Kanchi Kamakodi Peetathipathi has appointed him as Asthana Vidwan for the Kanchi Kamakodi Peedam. Tamilisai mandram of Thiruvaiyaru awarded him a title as Isai Mamurasu. Sri. Vasudevan has toured widely and has performed in Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. Sri. K. G. Kalyanasundaram (Thavil) is a distinguished vidwan trained by Guru K. Kunju Singaravel Pillay at Sikkil Kovil Devasthanam and Sri. A.K. Venugopal Pillay of the Government Music College in Chennai. He has performed for over 23 years with famous vidwans such as Kottur K.S. Rajarathinam Pillai, Sri. Sheik Chinna Moulana Sahib, Padmashri Mudurai M.P.N Sethuraman & Ponnusami and Namagiri Pettai K. Krishnan. He has accompanied the famous Thavil vidwan Valangaiman Shanmugasundaram. He has traveled extensively worldwide. Among his honors are Laya Gnana Selvam, Natha kalaa Deepajyothi, Isai Mamurasu, and Thala Gnana Perarasu. He is an A grade artiste in All India Radio, Tiruchirappalli. |
