Artist Profiles

P. Unnikrishnan (Vocal) was initiated into Carnatic Music at age of 12 by V.L . Seshadri, Unnikrishnan was inspired by Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. S. Ramanathan who shaped him into a competent and complete Artiste of aesthetic and technical excellence. He was guided by the late Calcutta Krishnamurthy, and now receives guidance from Savitri Satyamurthy and Shri. P.S. Narayanaswamy. He has also acquired "Veenai Dhanammal Bani" from Sangita Kalanidhi T. Brinda and T.Viswanathan. He is the recipient of many honors and awards which include "Kalaimamani" from the Govt. of Tamilnadu, 'Best Raaga' award from Music Academy, 'Yuvakala Bharati' from Bharat Kalachar.He has rendered concerts in all prestigious Sabhas in the country. He is an 'A' grade Artiste in AIR Simultaneously, his fame blazed in the film world as a play back singer for his renderings in two Tamil Films. 'Kaadalan' and Pavitra' which earned him the 'National Award' for 1994. He has made extensive concert tours to USA, South Africa, UAE, Australia and New Zealand.

Vittal Ramamurthy (Violin) is a leading violinist today. Since 1987, Vittal (as he is known to his fellow musicians) has been under the tutelage of Sri Lalgudi G Jayaraman. Prior to that, he received his initial training in Shimoga from Hosahalli Venkatram (himself a student of Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman) and briefly, from Smt T Rukmini. Vittal has accompanied leading musicians like Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, N Ramani, T V Sankaranarayanan, T N Seshagopalan, Trichur V Ramachandran, T V Gopalakrishnan, O S Thiagarajan, Bombay Sisters, Sudha Raghunathan and Kadri Gopalnath. He has also built a strong rapport with prominent young artistes like Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Vijay Siva, Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Unnikrishnan, Bombay Jayashri and Sowmya. Vittal has performed all over India and abroad. He is a graded artiste with All India Radio and is a regular performer on Doordarshan TV. He is the recipient of several awards, notable amongst these being the Best Accompanist award from the Krishna Gana Sabha (1987) and The Music Academy (1990, 1991 and 1993).

Trichur Narendran (Mridandgam) - Born at Kunnamkulam, Trichur district, Narendran is an Economics graduate.  From the age of seven, he was trained in mridangam successively under K.P.Namboodri, Koduvayur Radhakrishnan and Palghat Raghu, the renowned artiste.  After his debut at the age of ten, Narendran has performed in hundreds of concerts on All India Radio, Doordarshan, sabhas, etc.  He has pleasing rendition and has a good repertoire.  He taught Indian Classical Percussion during 1984-86 at the San Diego State University.
