Sruti 25: A Year Long Celebration of Music and Dance
SRUTI will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2011 with an extravaganza of Indian classical music and dance performances through out the year, featuring well known artists from India and the USA as well as local talent.
As in previous years, the momentous celebrations will commence with the Tyagaraja Aradhana music and dance festival, but unlike the previous years, the Thyagaraja Aradhana will be a two-day event in 2011! Sruti will collaborate with the Montgomery County Cultural Center to showcase the local talent and upcoming artists. A number of very exciting vocal and instrumental concerts and dance performances are being lined up for the rest of the year. The highlight of the anniversary celebrations will be a three-day music and dance festival during the Labor Day weekend of 2011. The theme of this festival will be the “ Confluence of Hindustani and Carnatic Music” in which Sruti is planning to present three main music concerts accompanied by well-defined education and outreach activities to demonstrate various facets of both Carnatic and Hindustani styles of music. As part of this festival, Sruti is aiming to feature two superstars of Indian classical music - Amjad Ali Khan in the Hindustani style and Sudha Raghunathan in the Carnatic style. The third concert will be a fusion of Carnatic and Hindustani vocal music by the Malladi Brothers and Gundecha Brothers. A grand Bharathanatyam (Indian classical dance) performance by Kalakshetra, one of the most prominent and world-renowned performing groups and arts educational institute in India, is being considered as the culminating program of the festival. The local Indian classical music and dance arts community will play a big role in the festivities from planning to performance. We will post the final program on our website as soon as it is finalized so please look out for the updates.
We look forward to your active participation in our 25th anniversary celebrations by attending the events, volunteering in various activities and by providing financial support to enable us present the kinds of quality events we are planning
