I'm very much interested in acquiring the copies of the books that you mentioned in your article, appreciate if you could send me some pointers on where to buy these. Dear Prabhakar garu: Wonderful article. May Lord Sri Rama Bless you and your family/friends. I was curious to know why you did not mention one of my favorite Krithis - Sobhillu Saptaswara - as a part of the class on Tyagaraja Swami's songs on Music. Thank you.

Excellent Article Prabhakar Garu Though all of us were keen in knowing the unknown compositions of Ayyavaru, no one tried to count how many compositions Ayyavaru composed in each raga.It is great that you have collected such a huge list and shown it to us in the form of a graph. I am based at Hyderabad and would like to have a copy of those Krithis in general and my favorite Krithi-Lokavana Chatura (Begada) in particular. My email id is: lokavana.chatura@gmail.com and begada.lover@gmail.com. Kindly let me know how I can get those tapes. Buddhiraju Sai Karthikeya Vijaya Nagar Colony Hyderabad-500057

R.Subramanya Sivam - 3/5/2004
On (21/12/2003) I attended, Smt. Nithyashree Mahadevan's Music concert, at Rani Seethai Hall , Chennai. The concert was held under the auspices of Kalarasana. Originally the concert was planned for 4 Hrs. But, finally extended to 4.5 Hrs, and ended with a standing Ovation from the audience. The highlight of the concert was, the selection of songs, which included, a very rarely sung composition of Saint Thyagaraja, 'Devadi Deva Sadhasiva..' , in the Raga Sindhu Namakriya. The composition is on Lord Siva. Another song, which is worth mentioning, is, 'Thiruvadi charanam..' of Shri Gopalakrishna Bharatiyar in Khamboji, which was incidentally the main Raga of the evening. The Neraval on " aduthu vantha ennai thallalagathu... hara haraa endru sonnalum pothatho!" and swarams were very powerful and made a big impression among the rasikas. 'Eppadi paadinaro..of Gopalakrishna Bharatiyar in the Raaga Abheri was sung with a good Bhakthi bhava. The specialty of the above songs is that, these are in praise of Lord Siva, aptly sung on a Pradhosam day. Subha Pantuvarali was the Raga chosen for the sub-main and 'Sri Sathya Narayanam..' of Sri Muthuswamy Dhikshitar was sung with immense depth and bhava. Earlier, shortly after the beginning, the item rendered was “Bhajana Seya Radha..” in the Raga Atana, which is a majestic composition of Saint Thyagaraja, which was embellished with liltic Kalpana Swaras with Swaraksharams to set the tempo of the Kutcheri. The RTP chosen for the evening deserves praising on every aspect, be it selection of the Raga, selection of the pallavi, rendering of the pallavi or Ragamalika ragas chosen. The Ragas chosen were, Gowri Manohari, Nalinakanthi and Jyothiswaroopini. The pallavi was "Gowri manohare Nalinakanthi Jyothi swaroopini Sri..". The Ragamalika was rendered in Gowri , Manohari, Kanthi, and Sri. The pallavi was set to Aadhi Tala (2 Kalai). The artist is a great master in rendering Thanam. Her style is not extraordinary, but to sing Thanam in the traditional veena style, which impresses the Rasikas immediately and ties them to the seat and raises lots of “Bhale” and “ Sabhash”. Other pieces included Kalyani varnam, Jayanthashri (Marugelara…), hamsanadham (Panneraal oru Abishegam…[I Guess this is a composition of her mother Smt. Lalitha Sivakumar]), Kaapi (Meevalla Guna Dosha…), Ragamalika (Ragathil sirantha ragam ethu?), Bhagyasree, Vaasanthi, etc. Another praiseworthy point of the concert was, though the rasikas felt tired of sitting for 4.5 Hrs which was evident from the faces of few rasikas, the artist was absolutely fresh both at her voice and face. Let us pray God, the Almighty to give Nithyashree an excellent stamina to continue giving such thrilling concerts. Fortunate Rasikas!!!!!!

Wonderful! - 6/6/2003
A very balanced review, and it is interesting to note that somebody does research on Tyagayyar's kritis too. It seems among the trinity, the only people to have composed in all the melakartas are Tyagayyar, and Muthuswami Dikshitar.

I am amazed at the research you have done . YOu have said that you have recorded in 25 casettes. Can I get a copy from you. Particularly if you have got a collection from Maharajapuram Santhanam that would be great. I have bought almost all the commercial casettes of Maharajapuram Santhanam. Please do mail me at look4rajeshnat@yahoo.com of how to get the casette.
