Here are some details of the main concert of the Thyagaraja Aradhana celebrated by Sruti recently. Your comments are welcome. Regards Prabhakar Chitrapu President, Sruti. ----------------- Starting around 6 p.m., the main concert of the Sruti's Thyagaraja Aradhana day was given by Prof. Subbulekshmi and her daughter Kalyani Ramani. They were accompanied by Radhika Mani on Violin and Suresh Ramachandran on Mridangam. Prof. Subbulekshmi retired as a Professor and Principal of the Swati Thirunal College of Music in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, India. She learnt vocal music from Sangeetha Kalanidhi Semmanagudi Srinivasa Iyer and veena from Sangeetha Kalanidhi KS Narayana Swamy. Kalyani Ramani is a Carnatic music teacher, who lives in New Jersey. The concert was a delightful one, filled with an artful blend of bhava and technique and a careful mix of well known and rare compositions of Thyagaraja. The main piece was in Raga Thodi (Emi Chesite Nemi). Other renderings included: Arabhi (O Rajeevaaksha), Mayamalawagowla (Meru Samana), Varali (Marakatha Mani Varna), Neelambari (Neeke Dayaraka), Begada (Samiki Sari), and Kiranavali (Eti Yochanalu). |
