Sanjay Subramanyam has been acclaimed as one of
the most serious exponents of Carnatic music of this
generation. His initial training started at the age of
seven under Sri V. Lakshminarayanan in vocal music and on
the violin. He continued learning from Smt. Rukmini
Rajagopalan for a period of eight years and finally from
Calcutta Sri K.S. Krishnamurthi. Sanjay has given several
performances in India and other countries, such as USA,
Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and
Oman. He has received the prestigious "Sanskriti
Award" from the Sanskriti Foundation, New Delhi, for
the category of Performing Art for 1996-97. He has
numerous awards and prizes for outstanding performances
at the Music Academy and various Sabhas in Chennai,
including the "Yuva Kala Bharathi" from Bharat
Kalachar.
A. Anantha Krishnan belongs to the shishya
parampara of Muthuswami Dikshitar - one of the Carnatic
Music Trinity. His earliest music training was in vocal
music and violin from his father, Vainika Vidwan Sri
Anantha Rama Iyer. He gave his first solo performance at
the age of eleven and has since accompanied top-level
musicians, including Dr. T. Viswanathan, D. K. Pattammal,
D. K. Jayaraman, K. V. Narayanaswamy, T. N. Seshagopalan,
T. V. Sankaranarayanan, Chitravina Ravikiran and Nedunuri
Krishnamurthy. He has performed extensively in India,
North America and Europe. He has also learnt Hindustani
music from Pandit V. G. Jog. Anantha Krishnan now lives
in New Jersey and teaches music.
Padmasri Palghat Raghu has been endowed with
the rich artistic heritage of Tanjore Vaidyanatha Ayyar
from the initial training under Tinniam Venkatarama Iyer
and later under the percussion wizard Palghat Sri Mani
Iyer. He has toured extensively all over the world,
including USA, Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia. He
has performed at the Hollywood Bowl along with Pandit
Ravi Shankar and Ustad Alla Rakha in 1965. Among the many
titles he has been awarded are the Padmasri by the Govt.
of Indiain 1984, Sangeet Natak Akademi award and the
Palghat Mani Iyer award in 1983, Mridangam Chakravarthi
by the Cleveland University in 1989, Kalaimamani by the
Tamil Nadu Govt. in 1992. He has trained several students
who are currently at the concert-performing level.
