“Sangeetha Kalanidhi” Neyveli Sri R Santhanagopalan is an acclaimed senior musician steeped in traditional classicism. Renowned for rendering effective concerts couched in ‘Bhakthi’ (devotion) and ‘Bhava’ (emotion), he skillfully elevates music to the pedestal of divine life philosophy. His excellent theoretical depth with extensive research of the best approaches makes him a distinctive musicologist. This multifaceted and versatile singer is also proficient at playing the veena and percussion instruments with strengths in ‘laya’ (rhythm) exposition. His hard work and passion towards music combined with the rigorous tutelage (Gurukulam) under ‘Sangeetha Kalanidhi’ ‘Padma Bhushan’ Madurai Sri TN Seshagopalan honed his musical abilities and made him a consummate artist. Also an erudite scholar and composer, his compositions have been featured at several concerts and premier music festivals around the world.
His music school, Neyveli Sishyakulam, has bred several bright and skilled young musicians that regularly perform in India and abroad, in addition to being teachers themselves sustaining his legacy. He has extensively travelled around the world and enthralled audiences with concerts, workshops, lecture-demonstrations and more.
Awards and accolades are too many to list. It suffices to say that as a testament to his greatness, The Music Academy of Chennai honored him with the coveted “Sangeetha Kalanidhi” title in 2020 for his contributions to Carnatic music.
